A to Z Marines Care Guide

Marine Invertebrate Care

Shrimp, crabs, snails, starfish and urchins can be sensitive to rapid changes in water chemistry. Use a mature, stable marine aquarium and acclimate new animals carefully.

General water guide

Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG. Temperature: 24–26°C. pH: approximately 7.9–8.3. Ammonia and nitrite: 0.

Important: copper

Do not use copper-based medications in an aquarium containing invertebrates. Copper is toxic to marine invertebrates.

Feeding & compatibility

Requirements vary widely. Some species graze algae or scavenge, while others require targeted feeding. Check compatibility and adult size before purchase.

General guidance only; always check species-specific requirements.
