What has changed in the new Red Sea Salt formula?

The original Red Sea salt was first formulated 20 years ago and has remained the same until now. At that time most hobbyists were using filtered tap water that already had calcium, magnesium and carbonates depending on the hardness of the water. The original Red Sea Salt was formulated to reproduce the parameters of natural seawater after taking into account an average hardness (mineral content) of the tap water. Mixing the original Red Sea Salt with RO or soft tap water would give lower than natural levels of calcium, magnesium and alkalinity. The new Red Sea Salt formula is based on using RO water and therefore has higher levels of these elements.
